Work from the series “Mapas Mentais” by Anna Maria Maiolino featured at Almeida & Dale booth at ArtRio 2024

The "Mapas Mentais" [Mind Maps] series by Anna Maria Maiolino synthesizes the artist’s reflections on identity, body, and exile, which are central themes in her research. Created during the Latin American military dictatorship, the piece "Situação Geográfica - Alma Negra da América Latina" [Geographic Situation - Black Soul of Latin America], is part of this series that uses diagrams, charts, and maps to explore the artist's personal journey, revealing her geographic displacements and the emotional imprints left by these experiences. 

With an approach that is both deeply personal and universal, Maiolino draws connections between her individual history and the collective experience of many Latin Americans who, like her, faced regimes of oppression and political persecution.
