Last days to see “Amazon Via Crucis”, by Hélio Melo, at the exhibit “Vai, vai, saudade” in Naples
10/30/2024
The exhibition Vai, vai, saudade is on view until November 4th at the Museo d’arte contemporanea Donnaregina, (Madre) in Napoli, Italy.
In collaboration with Almeida & Dale, the exhibition presents the series Via Sacra da Amazônia (1990) by Amazonian artist Hélio Melo, a group of paintings that depicts the Stations of the Cross, with Jesus Christ portrayed as a rubber tapper. Created with ink and plant extracts, Hélio Melo's works stem not only from his convictions, but mainly from his personal experience as a rubber tapper and as a witness to the transformations of the forest during the 20th century.
