Brazilian artists at 60th Venice Biennale

This is the last week to visit the exhibition “Corte, dobra, encaixe [Cut, Fold, Fit],” which highlights the convergence between the works of Amilcar de Castro, renowned for his corten steel sculptures, and Kimi Nii, whose artistic practice focuses on ceramics. Curated by Antonio Gonçalves Filho, the exhibition emphasizes the shared structural purpose of both artists, where cutting reveals new three-dimensional forms in the empty spaces of the sculptures.

According to the curator, “both artists create relationships with light in their works. While Amilcar uses slits and incisions in iron to allow light entry, Kimi closes her ceramic sculptures, using light to highlight geometric shapes through fittings.” In addition to works displayed directly on the floor, the exhibition includes a long base running through the exhibition space, where the works of both artists coexist, allowing visitors to find relationships and dialogues between their productions.
