Almeida & Dale launches book "Temporal Landscapes: Evolving Perspectives"
02/05/2025
On Saturday, February 15, Almeida & Dale will be launching the book “Temporal Landscapes: Evolving Perspectives”, which accompanies the group exhibition on show at the gallery. The event will be attended by artist Marlene Almeida and the show's curator, María Inés Rodríguez.
The book and exhibition bring together works by Djanira da Motta e Silva, Eleonore Koch, Farnese de Andrade, Ione Saldanha, José Leonilson, Joseca Mokahesi Yanomami, Marlene Almeida, Tomie Ohtake and Vivian Caccuri, organized by María Inés Rodríguez.
The Temporal Landscapes: Evolving Perspectives exhibition has been running since October 2024, and has been given a book organized by curator María Inés Rodríguez, with editing by Gustavo Colombini and graphic design by Cristina Gu. As well as images and information on selected works, the publication contains a presentation text by the curator, an unpublished interview with Marlene Almeida - the exhibition's focus artist - and a critical text by Katya García-Antón. The launch takes place on February 15 at Almeida & Dale, with free distribution to the public.
The exhibition establishes a dialog between generations of artists whose work represents the constant transformation of nature and the uncertainties that define our current ecological environment. Through Marlene Almeida's installations and a selection of works from the Almeida & Dale collection, including Tomie Ohtake, Farnese de Andrade, Eleonore Koch, Djanira, Ione Saldanha, Leonilson, Joseca Mokahesi Yanomami and Vivian Caccuri, a delicate but significant continuity is revealed between different territories, times and artistic practices. The visual fabric not only documents environmental changes, but also, through the artistic proposals, invites us to rethink the ecologies that are emerging as a response to the global crisis, both in their material and symbolic dimensions.
At a time marked by environmental collapse and the urgent need for an energy transition, the works presented transcend their role as witnesses to the deterioration caused by centuries of extractivism. Far beyond indicating a problem, they stand as platforms from which alternative ways of imagining and inhabiting the world are proposed.
Marlene Almeida's commitment to the use of local and sustainable materials, deeply anchored in a practice that favors resources that respect the environment, highlights a critical reflection on the ways in which our production and consumption chains have an impact, both locally and globally. This approach questions the extractive relationship we have with the planet and proposes a path towards regenerative practices that invite us to imagine other ways of living together.
