Além do Moderno at Casa Zalszupin:
A Dialogue between Brazilian Modernist Painting and Design
11/09/2024
Exploring the lasting influence of historical artistic movements, particularly Constructivism, in contemporary Brazilian painting, the Beyond Modern exhibition, curated by Antonio Gonçalves Filho, brings together Aluísio Carvão, Hélio Oiticica and Milton Dacosta – artists linked to the Neo-Concrete movement in Rio de Janeiro – alongside contemporary painters Cássio Michalany, Eduardo Sued, Paulo Pasta and Rodrigo de Castro.
The dialogue with modern design comes from furniture created by architects who helped build a Brazil attuned to international avant-gardes: from the Ukrainian Gregori Warchavchik, considered the introducer of this school in Brazilian architecture, to Oscar Niemeyer, creator of Brasília, as well as names such as Jorge Zalszupin himself, Lasar Segall, Joaquim Tenreiro, Oswaldo Bratke, Vilanova Artigas and Jayme Fonseca Rodrigues.
Além do moderno [Beyond Modern] opens at Casa Zalszupin on November 9th.
