ArPa 2024: Almeida & Dale Presents a Solo of Mario N. Ishikawa
06/18/2024
For this edition of ArPa, Almeida & Dale presents a selection of works by Mario N. Ishikawa, an artist who began his production in the 1960s and stood out for his conceptual practices and critical approach to the political and social issues of his time. Throughout his career, Ishikawa explored new languages and forms of art circulation, such as electrography and mail art.
These forms of image production represent an alternative to conventional ways of exhibiting and circulating art, enabling wider distribution while questioning the very status of the art object. By engaging in these experimental practices, Ishikawa highlights the concern of his production with democratic forms of image production.
While continually working with electrography, in the 1980s, Ishikawa introduced themes related to the circularity of nature and the transformation of organic matter into his work.
